Mark Godfrey is a journalist reporting on economy, industries and trade in China with a particular focus on agriculture and fisheries.
During a decade in Beijing I’ve covered agriculture and rural economy for China Confidential, a Financial Times publication, while also serving as China correspondent for International News Services, a London-based news agency focused on global industries and trade. I have also reported on the fisheries pricing and policy for the US-based Seafood Source newswire.
Away from work, I am the Chairperson of the Ballyhaunis Community Council, the representative body of the Ballyhaunis community which runs projects for the benefit of the East Mayo town.
I am a co-founder of Beijing Community Dinners, a local civil society initiative, and a board member of the Foreign Correspondents Club of China. I am also proud to have served two terms as chairperson of the Irish Network China. An academic specialism in Central Asia has taken me regularly to western China and into Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
